Here in the USA, a gap year is unheard of. 'You want to take a year off to travel and relax? Why, are you dumb?' This ideology is so misguided. The opportunity to travel for kids is a widely accepted thing, except in the USA. The protective bubble is raised around the country and kids are not experiencing the world. No wonder people think Americans are so narrow minded, its because they are. My friends across the pond travel all across Europe for vacations and just because they can. They experience all different cultures, different people, and different religions. The USA is called a 'mixing pot', but xenophobia still grips most of the US population. The only way Americans experience the other cultures is through TV and films, a biases view.
So why not take a year, a semester a week off and travel somewhere crazy? Why not experience another culture and let it open your eyes? It will make you a better person, it will make you more adapt to college life, and you can succeed in life.
So lets all travel!!!
